PJ Stevens Coaching

Welcome to Lifecoaching.co.uk, a site dedicated to life coaching, life coaches and the services that coaching in life, sport and business can offer you.

Firstly, let’s be clear – lifecoaching is about coaching for life, for people, in all life's situations. Remember, this is your life. Live it! Life coaching is about helping you to get the best out of you, your life, relationships, resources, health, happiness, family life, work life and sport. Life coaching is about you, for you and centres around you. Lifecoaching is not about training you or telling you what to do, it is about coaching you through thought processes, ideas, decisions, change and action that you decide is best for you and your life. Life coaching enables you to own the change or as Ghandi once said, "Be the change you are trying to create".

So what is life coaching? In recent years a big industry has grown under the heading of 'life coaching'. For this reason the term 'life coaching' appears widely in materials, articles and websites, which can create a perception that life coaching is in fact different to personal coaching. In fact the term 'personal coaching' can be equally descriptive of what 'life coaching' entails: many personal coaches have capabilities which match those of 'life coaches', and many clients of personal coaches experience exactly the same coaching experiences as in the 'life coaching' industry. Accordingly the terms 'life coaching' and 'personal coaching' are most often inter-changeable, and in effect seem to mean the same in life.

According to some, Life Coaching is rather like a brand or label of the life and personal coaching industry, which covers virtually every aspect of personal development that an individual might aspire to learn about and develop, including career development, management, executive and leadership, business start-up and entrepreneurialism, life skills, personal fulfilment and well-being, work-life-balance and so on. Life coaching – as a term and practise - is adaptable because it is not concerned with delivery and specialised training as it focuses on enablement and reflection, so that the individual decides and discovers their required progression themselves. Life coaching aims to draws out a person's potential, helping them identify needs and goals and move towards achieving the change or potential they have chosen.

Coaching is a relatively new and different profession - different to psychology, counselling or therapy, though some life coaches will be skilled and qualified in these areas of expertise, too. The big difference between coaching and these professions is that coaching doesn't claim to have the answers. The concept of coaching is to help the other person find their own solutions, not to have them follow an advisor's recommendations or suggestions.

Coaching is about getting the very best out of someone and enabling them to make decisions that will improve their life, in whole or part. Coaches are hired for very many different and diverse reasons, for example: to climb the career ladder faster; to feel more fulfilled at work; to improve relationships with family and partners; to learn parenting skills that benefit both the child and parent; to gain a spiritual meaning to life; or a desire to sort themselves out.

Whilst life coaching is a very broad term, some coaches specialise in certain areas such as; Career Coaching, Sports Coaching, Business Coaching, Performance Coaching, Relationship Coaching or Coaching around Addictions and Addictive Behaviours. To specialise does not mean to ‘advise’ or ‘train’ but to have a greater understanding or empathy and in effect to ask better quality questions around the subject. Most coaches are passionate about helping others to succeed and are motivated by more than money. To this end, many coaches may have a specialist area of interest.

We will deal with this point and the process of finding and choosing a life coach elsewhere in this website, because choosing the right life coach for you can have a very significant effect on the success of your journey and outcome. So make sure you get the right coach for you. After all, how likely are you to open up to a person you do not like or feel comfortable with.

PJ approaches each event with an unusually dedicated preparation. He is extremely flexible, creative and professional and takes time to understand the unique dynamics and objectives of each event for each client. PJ has been a director for fifteen years of a successful company and has a solid understanding of business, which enables him to take an accurate brief from clients.

Having sailed across the Atlantic, undertaken a number of firewalks – including a 40’ challenge in Hawaii - and stood atop a 60 foot pole before jumping onto a trapeze, PJ has a variety of interesting metaphors that he includes to help clients in their developmental journey.

His career started nearly 20 years ago, and from that he has grown into a facilitator and trainer working on a great many events including corporate events and coaching, conferences, leadership programmes, culture change programmes and workshops with sports stars and teams including golfers and Premiership Football players. PJ Stevens - TV Expert, Host and Presenter

PJ has appeared on national and local television including SKY TV, BBC 1's ‘Changing Lives’ with Paul Ross, Regional TV, C'4s ‘The Salon’ working with the Team live on the show and more recently on the last Big Brother and this year with Love Productions on a C4 Show about men in childcare.

He is particularly skilled in relationships, teamwork, leadership and performance related issues. ‘Its people that make the difference. Its people who drive a team or business forwards. People are amazing when they choose to be,’ states PJ.

One of the biggest reducible costs in business today is to be found in relationships, misunderstanding, conflict and personality clashes. Look into any business or team issues and it’s nearly always people at the centre of it, or to be more specific – relationships. When relationships are going well in life, people perform much better whether its on the football pitch, the shop floor or in the boardroom. When relationships are not going well and people are in conflict or feel opposition then life seems tougher, takes more energy and is often much less effective.

PJ's experience of relationships, communication and high performance team work makes him a useful TV expert, facilitator and coach for factual television, debates, coaching and development type programmes, fly on the wall documentaries and social and community television. He has a passion for sport, for performance and change, and an interest in community development through young people, creating inclusion and encouraging youngsters to add value to their community.
