G4S, really?
G4S seem to win some fabulous contracts and yet seem appear incapable of doing a decent job.
They messed up their 2012 Olympic contract - which was an absolute - disgrace, their staff have been accused of bullying and now they hand over a prison because they can't cope.
On top of this, and their billion pound turnover, they pay no tax apparently.
Given this, I wonder what their values are, and his this impacts on people , decisions, investment in people etc.

Jake Livermore , good work.
Great to hear premiership footballer Jake Livermore talking so openly and honestly about his poor choices and behaviours that got him banned from football, and how he has changed.

Given that footballers are not known for their emotional intelligence, jake Livermore has publicly bucked the trend and shown himself and football in a very open and positive light!

Having coached pro footballers to a high level I know how hard it is for them to say what needs saying, without fear of retribution.

Diving and Football
There's me thinking Tom Daly was a great diver until I saw some of the Premiership Footballers who perform incredible diving feats.
Frankly it's a disgrace that some players, including the talented Diego Costa, would have been placed higher than Daly at the recent Olymoics. The 27 year Chelsea star is a hugely skilled player, but he is not a great player because he has a nasty cheating streak.
When will the FA stop this ridiculous sub sport in football before it ruins the great game.

Challenging conversations
Challenging conversations!
So few people actually have them, let alone have them effectively. Most avoid the subject, leave it to some one else or hope it goes away..... Recently a senior partner of a professional services company told me how he'd waited several weeks for news of a promotion from the managing partner....eventually he asked for feedback to be told he did not get the role and that the managing partner had not known how to tell him because it was 'difficult'.

Are challenging, or fierce, conversations a hallmark of high performing teams?

Absolutely

The managing partner, like so many senior executives, needs some education on communication, feedback and relationships.

What a result! Yes, I know that everyone is talking about it and, yes, there is a bit of a bandwagon. However, it is a once in a lifetime story of sporting achievement and we humans do enjoy those occasions.

I'm looking forward to the analysis and dissection that will be coming, and perhaps even a film telling the story. If a film studio does take that on they will need to keep it close to reality, there are a lot of fans who will defend it!

So, a great result and something truly inspiring.

By the time anyone had a chance to really investigate the new season has started and they are not doing so well, although they seem to be holding their own in the Champions League. Is playing in Europe going to kill the magic by putting too much strain on the team?

Increase in virtual coaching
Very pleased to say that having done the numbers of last years work that I delivered 4x more coaching (value£) than in the previous year.
In part due to my return to coaching but more in the fact that clients were seeking out and asking for coaching.
My work included 1-1s with some senior directors and the biggest area of increase was in virtual coaching , particularly virtual coaching with small groups of staff / execs.
Virtual coaching is certainly more acceptable these days!

Virtual Coaching
I used to think virtual coaching was a poor cousin to face to face coaching. How wrong I was.
Last year some 60% of my coaching work was virtual.
Sure its different, and it requires a different mind set and more listening, better questions and clarification. But in our modern world or better tech and mobile workforce , virtual coaching is coming into its own.
Don't be afraid to use tech to coach.
I am very respectful of the value of virtual coaching.

G4S
Did anyone see the disgraceful BBC Documentary on G4S and their 'work' with young vulnerable people in custody?
I felt sick watching it.
The documentary showed staff bullying, threatening and abusing young people 14-18 years old in their care?
How could coaching help staff, to help and coach young people so they can return to their communities and have a chance to add value and be a positive influence...rather than returning to jail, being excluded or relying on the state?

It happens in care homes as well. It seems that one powerful bully can create a culture of bullying which draws others in. It makes me think of the Stanford Pirson Experiment in the early 1970s where the guards became bullies in just a couple of days. There's something in human nature that needs to be proactively managed when we are given power over others. It seems that it can't just be left in the hope that it will work out.

Stanford Prison Experiment... I must look it up.

Thanks for that. Interesting to note how quickly staff became bullies, or tolerated others bullying...
