Karen - The smartphone life coach app
A group of developers, backed by a Kickstarter campaign, have developed a smartphone app which they claim is part game, part drama and part self-help quiz. An article in The Guardian calls this a life coaching app and gives an example of one of the questions it asks as; 'Sex with a stranger is more exciting, right?'

It doesn't seem to have much to do with life coaching in the real world, not least given the extremely leading way that the question is asked.

An uncomfortable question
One of the big blind-spots of the coaching profession is that we can fall into the trap of placing the focus on the individual to improve their lives, and thus collude with, rather than advocating changes to, the systems or structures that foster inequality.

We should explore the uncomfortable question of whether we are part of the problem or part of the solution. And, just to be clear about this, there is no easy answer to that question - it isn't black and white - but ask it we must.

How many people undertake coaching wanting to actually change? I think that one of the reasons why lifecoaching has a bit of an iffy reputation is that many coaches just validate behaviour rather than have the skills required to help people to change.

Everything happens for a reason
I can't think of a saying that grates on me more. This could be a controversial post to make in this forum.

If the cards are broadly in your favour and live in the first world you may be lucky enough to be able to believe it, but for a significant proportion of humanity the deal is unfair and has no upside now or in the future.

Or am I missing something?

You're not missing anything, James.

For me one of the big shadows of the coaching profession is its attachment to this kind of statement, and its relentless focus on positivity - what Barbara Ehrenreich calls the cult of mandatory optimism.

I think it probably makes 'it' more accessible, more about personalities than Politics for many of us. I admit that I watched more of it this year, than ever before. Keen to get back to business now. Hoping the government will get on with the business that must take care of.

Coaching for ill health
Question?
What can any one share about coaching young people through ill health?
What do you think of the impact of coaching on children and user coming health issues. And what about the importance of language around a poorly young person.
Please share and respond in detail if you can. Thanks.

Love it or hate it!
How can you coach a champion - two part question: how can you coach some one to be a champion, and how do you coach a champion to remain at the top?
You can see how careers are managed and deals done, but what about the champion drivers, engineers or designers. How do you coach them?

The power of choice
I love the way my son got his school uniform out this morning, after couple fab Easter weeks off. He talked me through the blue jumper, his white polo shirt, black/grey socks, dark grey trousers, dark shoes...he shared with pride. then his little eyes sparkled, the smile grew, his nose twitched and he licked his lips and announced that he could wear any type and colour of pants he wanted, he rummaged through boxers and pants, in many colours and carefully chose a limey green pair!

Thoughts can and will change your life
Thoughts create your world.  Thoughts create your world even if you don't think they do.  If you think a thought over and over again, you will get it.  Here is an example: if someone says, “I am depressed”, and they say this over and over again, they will most likely become depressed.  Even if a person just says, “I am sad” over and over again, the person will become sadder and more depressed.  It’s like old saying, “The… Read More »

Loving Yourself First
The one thing I want to make crystal clear is please don’t hold a grudge or hate your ex. It will only hurt you, not your ex. The way we feel and treat ourselves will mean more than what anyone thinks of us. Loving yourself can change your life. Read More »
